View Thread : Limitations of the moderators and administrator
Sea
I think mods and admins should not have the right to delete things on an individual decision. You should ask other members of this board before you delete anything.
And what wouldnt surprise me, if this thread will get deleted as well.
Jeff
**** I EDITED THIS THREAD, keep it clean ****

I would also have to agree that we as moderators or administrators shouldnt have free reign to do as we please. I agree with the idea that we could run it by each other so that the board isnt run only by one person. Cause we have to remember that everyone will have opinions and just because we dont agree with it doesnt mean it should be deleted.
Jeff
But if somethings should be deleted theres no reason it should stick around for longer then it has to.
So move it to the mod recycle bin for review, it may stay or make a comeback, so if a thread dissapears, wait a while befor you jump to conclusions.
Sea
Just do us all a favor if you move a thread into the mods only and the thread was started by a non modertor explain to them why you moved it....please.

How about a PM to the user?
Mods dont worry, no more work for you, looking at a way to autmatically PM the thread starter if a thread if moved.
Sea
Pming, msning same thing..
Is there seriously an option that will do that. Notify someone that there thread has moved instead of you doing it...
Man and you call me lazy

What Im trying to say, is please use your judgement as a club wide decision, deciding if its bad for the club in whole to have this particular thread up, please do not decide you dont like it because you dont agree with it on an individual bases.
Does that make sense?

sorry this is a little late, but i agree there was a post directed towards me and it was removed before i even got to see it. admin should discuss thread or post removal with the person who posted or started thread and who it was directed towards before removing it. we are all part of the board and club whether very active or not a couple of people cannot start controlling everything or it will turn into wp

what post is this?
i know i removed a remark of yours that was rude.. and since seeing it the member has not returned..
Jeff
Moderation is not a Democracy
Moderators are there so the uncalled for posts and threads are seen by as few people as possible.
Threads that get out of hand will end up in the mods only section for review.
Individual Post that are inapropriate will be removed with the discretion of the mod, questionable post will be reviewed befor/if they are removed, unless they cause the thread to become inapropriate, then that post and the inapropriate ones following will be removed so long as the thread still has some merit, otherwise the thread will end up in the mod only section.

Moderation is not a democracy, I agree yes, but a car club is a democracy where each members vote (or opinion) should be and will be considered. I agree unruly posts should be removed yes, but only if its enough to cause major disruption among others. But so far there is been only one or two that has and the mods were doing there job to remove them cause they were causing disruptions. Other posts that come off a slight tinge rude, maybe just ask the member who posted it to change it or remove it themselves.
Question: When you say questoinable posts will be reviewed before removed I hope you meant it will be reviewed by all members just not moderators?

Yes the Club is a democracy, we arent talking about the club, we are talking about moderation...
Answer to your question: Thats up to the discretion of the moderator.

As has been said i think this thread proves that we as moderators need to second guess ourselves sometimes. While we may have the right to delete threads doesnt mean we should abuse that priveledge. And we do have to somewhat cater to our members because without the members we dont have much of a club.
Mercury
this isnt a democracy..... in a democracy people pay taxes.
RoadWarrior
Weve all gone over this before. While many people make a valid point the biggest thing for us to look at is how me moderate the board. We must find a median whereas to not over-moderate things (which is what started this thread) Or turn a blind eye when we should be doing something. And in order to find that we MUST use the input given from our members because they are what make the board.
Jeff
This thread is getting redundent by the same people....
and I'm pretty sure Jelsoft made the board....

I completely agree with Robin and Jeff on this one (sorry Celia). Moderating is just that. The people that are chosen as moderators were chosen because they are able to make a fair and unbiased opinion for the better judgement of the board. It's not a bleedin' democracy. Now, if they were taking down posts just because it pissed them off, that's another story, but they're not (to my knowledge). Now, I've been part of several internet communities and even moderated a few boards myself, it's not up to the community to decided. If in half the other places I belong, if the mods left it up to the community to decide what gets trashed and what gets kept up the boards would be filled with "hjkwh, kjhajsherfjahe u sux u dum slut" and anything remotely interesting, because it may or may not piss one person who might be more 'popular' than the rest off would get cut short. I think the guys are doing a good job and they always call me when I'm stepping a little too close to the line. The point is, we have to try and get along. We have to be a community or you're right, we will turn out like WP bord did.

No offense taken Cece, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. And yes thats what moderating is; your own opinion. But the moderators on this board were not picked cause of there ability to make an fair and biased opinion, they were picked because there the ones that generally started the board and work to keep it. I fully understand and respect what you guys want to do with the board. And I also agree I want to keep it a very respectful board. But I believe there has to be some form of democracy thats its not all left up the moderators powers to decide how everything is run. Im not here to cause a scuffle I just want people to understand what Im trying to get at. If you dont let others state their opinions as well this board will never grow and develop.
Jeff
OK people, I think this topic isnt going anywhere, the same things are just being repeated time and time again. Points have been made, and opinions have been voiced.
What will be done for futrue moderation has been said, mistakes from befor have been ratified as best they could.
Since I believe nothing more can come of this thread I'm going to give this thread a few more days, so everyone can get a last word in if they have something to ADD to the topic, then it will be closed for the archives.
