View Thread : Carb Problem Solved

RoadWarrior
Well today i was at best buy and fern and i were doing a vaccum test and i noticed that my car was missing a vaccum cap. So i had a huge vaccum leak. We threw a new cap on there and it made a HUGE difference the way home. It runs 100X Better at low rpm now that its just the front jets instead of all four opening up. But on a side note we also noticed that my balancer was toast so ill be looking into a new one.

Mercury
good to see you straightened things out..

did you find a balancer?

RoadWarrior
Ya im getting the one off of jasons dads car. He went to a liquid filled one so im buying his old one.

cool, cool

Black Ice
cool is it a stock piece or a performance

RoadWarrior
Well i got the new balaner on and it works great. Mind you there wasnt really anything you could notice about the old one but this one doesnt move like the other one did. The other one was definately toast.

Bimmer
does your car smoke blue anymore now that you fixed the vacum leak

RoadWarrior
I think it still does but i talked to campbell about it and they said that when they did my rings they left a little bit wider gap since i was talking about running nitrous and it could just be some oil getting by the rings.

Black Ice
yes it does still smoke

V8Mercury
I don't think that ring gap is something that they should need to change to run nitrous.

Does it smoke more on start up and then settle down...or does it smoke all the time?

Should do a compression test to see conditions or rings...uness it was rebuilt recently.

If it smokes more on start up it could be the valve guides leaking...when were the heads last checked?

RoadWarrior
Heads were worked over about a month ago. Everything is pretty much brand new. The only time it smokes is at fairly high rpm. And they gap rings differently for nitrous because with nitrous cylinder temps can go up really fast and if the rings are gapped fairly tight then they may expand too much.

V8Mercury
Makes sence to me that they would gap the compression rings slightly wider if they are experiencing higher temperature. however the oil scrapers should be isolated from the abrupt increase in temperature. I would think it would smoke when the engine was cold, if gap were the problem. Crank case pressure (vacuum)may be a test to preform, as well as cylinder compression test

perhaps the smoke is not oil? it may be fuel. If the car is running really rich when accelerating it may smoke as well. Problem could then be O2 sensor or something.

Black Ice
no its oil the smoke is blue in color not black or gray plus it does it when the engine is hot as well as when its cold. its just more notice able at higher engine rpms

JENSSEN
What are the specs on the motor? what size ect...?

RoadWarrior
302 bored .040 over, eagle crank, eagle rods, speedpro hypereutectic pistons, edelbrock performer 5.0 heads

JENSSEN
Ok so how old is it? What was the break in procedure, FI or carb?

mark has had it for a while.... he broke it in already

i have been thinkin for a while about the smoke comin out of marks car, and I am not sure why it smokes exactly... it isn't robbing too much performance right now anyways. we'll just say its a stroker :wink1

Black Ice
ya marks had it for at least 2 years and for break in he had it engine dynoed

JENSSEN
Was it broken in with synthectic or fossil oil?

RoadWarrior
Fossil oil for break in and synthetic ever since. Im with luke. It may smoke a bit but it runs great and pulls hard. Its just power smoke.

JENSSEN
"power Smoke" Ok never heard of that....

Black Ice
ya its in there with the magic smoke that you get from electronics

ahh damn that magic smoke seen that too many times, never a good thing, come to think of it the capri made that magic smoke too many times

Bimmer
Mark can you expalin what this power smoke is...cause my minivan made alot of that but it still didn't have any power.

Black Ice
I think it might be a ricer term because a lot of ricers I have seen the area around the tailpipe is black from smoke
