Ah, she was a good night. Make a couple o' passes and then back to the pits for half an hour with the ice on the intake. Two more passes and back for more ice & a cheeseburger. A couple more and another break. Then the sun went down and I was set upon by hordes of bloodthirsty skeeters, so I hotlapped 'er four more passes.
Initially, the tech guy was averse to my running slicks without a driveshaft loop until I explained, "Those aren't slicks...they're just very well-worn drag radials!" Then he was looking askance at my well-worn drag radials.:shock I told him I was doing the "one-wheel peel" so that's why one is bald & the other still has a modicum of tread left. I swapped them to opposite sides so as to "even the wear". Hell, who wants to throw away ONE drag radial when the other one still has some meat left? Anyways, he opined as to how, if I'm doin' the one-wheel peel, it would prob'ly be okay tonight but I'm gonna want to get some different rubber for next time. He claims that what I've assumed was the last vestige of my disappearing tire tread is, in fact, the first indication of my appearing tire cord! I'm still not sure I believe him but I guess that's what I get for driving 12 months of the year on race tires that have a double-zero treadwear rating! I've had a set of clapped-out circle-track slicks kickin' around on my garage for a few years that I couldn't use in the past 'cause the quad shocks got in the way. Now that my quads are gone, I guess I should install a loop (and the lineloc that's also gathering dust on my shelf) and run them. That ought to back off the techies!
At least I made out better than the poor, 'stang-banging, Five-oh pilot who busted an axle last night. It must've been hard enough on his ego when the competition passed him on the drivers side... but when his own rear wheel passed him on the passenger side, that undoubtedly ruined his whole night!
I picked up a good .10, maybe .15 second, popping the caps off my Warlock mufflers. Trap speeds were up .50-.66 mph. It sounds pretty badass, too!:2up: Last pass of the night, she went 14.505 @ 94.02 with a 2.06 short time.
